Cellulite is caused by a combination of various factors, including the structure of the skin, the distribution of fat, and hormonal changes. The skin consists of several layers, including the epidermis (outer layer), dermis (middle layer), and subcutaneous tissue (inner layer). The subcutaneous tissue contains fat cells arranged in chambers separated by connective tissue called septae.
In the female body, the septae are arranged in a vertical pattern, which can create a bulging effect when fat cells push against them. In men, the septae are placed in a diagonal pattern, less likely to cause cellulite.
While cellulite is not a severe medical condition, it can be an aesthetic concern for some people.
Unfortunately, unlike 'normal' fat, cellulite is not correlated with how much we eat and exercise we do. Various cellulite treatments, including massage, lotions, and other therapies, are available. These treatments may be very effective in combination with maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and a balanced diet, and be the most effective way to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
